Job Description:
We are seeking a highly dedicated and qualified Special Education Physical Education Teacher to join our team. As a Special Education Physical Education Teacher, you will be responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive physical education program designed to meet the individual needs of students with special education requirements. Your primary focus will be to promote physical fitness, motor skills development, and social interaction among students with diverse abilities.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement individualized physical education programs for students with special education needs, considering their abilities, goals, and learning styles.
2. Design and adapt physical education activities and exercises to accommodate the diverse needs and abilities of students, ensuring maximum participation and engagement.
3. Utilize specialized equipment and assistive technology to support students with physical disabilities and sensory impairments during physical education classes.
4. Collaborate with school staff, including special education teachers, therapists, and support personnel, to design and implement integrated education plans that address both academic and physical development goals.
5. Assess and evaluate students' progress in physical education, using appropriate tools and methods, and provide regular feedback to students, parents, and the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team.
6. Develop and implement behavior management strategies to ensure a safe and supportive learning environment for students with special needs during physical education classes.
7. Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance, and behavior, and prepare reports as required by the school and district policies.
8. Stay updated on the latest research, trends, and best practices in special education physical education, and participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Special Education, or a related field.
2. Valid teaching certification or license in Physical Education and Special Education.
3. Demonstrated experience working with students with special education needs, including those with physical disabilities, cognitive impairments, and sensory impairments.
4. In-depth knowledge of pedagogical approaches, principles, and techniques relevant to teaching physical education to students with special needs.
5. Familiarity with assistive technology and adaptive equipment commonly used in special education physical education settings.
6. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with students, parents, colleagues, and multidisciplinary teams.
7. Ability to assess students' abilities and progress, and adapt instructional strategies accordingly.
8. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage diverse tasks effectively.
9. Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and policies related to special education and physical education.
